What is HTML and what does Taco HTML Edit do?
HTML is a language that is used to design web pages that internet browsers can then render. Taco HTML Edit assists in the process of creating an HTML document by including tools that generate and check HTML code and by making it easy to preview an HTML document in a web browser. How do I install Taco HTML Edit?
After downloading the Taco HTML Edit file, open the "TacoHTMLEdit.dmg" disk image file. The Taco HTML Edit application will then appear (you will see the Taco Software icon). You should drag the application to your "Applications" folder. Once Taco HTML Edit appears in your "Applications" folder, you can eject the disk image.
Does Taco HTML Edit support XHTML?
The answer to this question is both "yes" and "no". You should find that almost all of Taco HTML Edit's features work well with XHTML documents. However, Taco HTML Edit's built-in syntax checker is not as strict as the XHTML specification requires. The syntax checker does recognize self-closing tags when looking at tag structure, but it will not display an error message if certain tags like <br> are not closed.
When I preview a document in a browser, I see strange characters. What should I do?
When you include certain non-English or punctuation characters in an HTML document, a special text-encoding must be used to save the document. By default, Taco HTML Edit uses an encoding called UTF8 in these situations. However, in order for the browser to know how to interpret the document, you must tell it that the document uses this encoding. This can be done by including the following <meta> tag at the beginning of your document within the title section:

Why isn't Taco HTML Edit distributed as open source?
Taco HTML Edit is not open source because Taco Software values its intellectual property and reserves the right to distribute its products commercially in the future.
Taco HTML Edit doesn't have a feature that I want. What should I do?
If there is a feature that you would like to see in Taco HTML Edit, feel free to contact us and let us know about it. In some cases, we decide that it is not feasible to include a certain feature that is requested. Frequently, feature requests give us great ideas for how to improve the product. Note that even if you submit a feature request that we like, we are very busy, and it can be months or years before the feature appears in Taco HTML Edit.
