Taco HTML Edit 1.7.0

As some of you may have already discovered, Taco HTML Edit 1.7.0 has been released. This version includes several new features like line numbers and new toolbar icons. From now on, all announcements related to Taco Software will appear in this journal as opposed to my personal journal. I hope that you enjoy the new version.

Just found this Editor on Versiontracker as I was searching for a freeware thingy because I didn't want to pay for BBEdit. Thanks for this neat Editor. I'm using it full-time now!

thanks so much for the new release. i'm currently transitioning from pc to mac and need all new (free) apps to continue working. i would like to use taco html cuz it's so lightweight (and free). please keep up the good work, there are those out there that are looking forward to new features and releases. :)

I've been using Taco HTML edit since 1.5.0 and i decided to check your site because I was board. I do alot of php work and I use taco html edit exclusively so it's good to hear you have php syntax checking (be honest I never used the html one but I'm giving the php one a try).

Taco HTML is so lightweight and powerfull I frequently open up 30+ php files and batch-find through them quickly on my trusty G3 500mhz iBook.

Keep up the great work!!

This is such a fantastic tool i'm amazed that it's freeware (please don't change that :)! I recently switched from the PC world and I couldn't be more happy -- i've never found any program this lightweight, yet powerful before.

I have used Taco HTML edit now, and it has always satisfied every need. Thanks very much for the spell checker, due to dyspraxia, it is hard for me to get all my spelling right, and also its great having the live editor view. A freeware gem! Thank you!

I like a lot your software thou it would be nice, it supported XHTML :D ...

I was looking for a simple and powerfull free software, and that's the right one!
Among others, the Insert Image Map function is great as well as the syntax checker with its show tree button.
If only it could apply syntax coloring for javascript code, I would use only Taco HTML Edit. For now, I use SubEthaEdit for my javascript code, wich has the good consequence that I am almost forced to clean my code and use .js files.

This is a great piece of software and I'm seriously considering it for full-time coding. I especially like the vertical split view which is great if you have a large monitor.
Only thing missing is full support for XHTML...

I just found out about Taco HTML Edit from Mac Home magazine. (I'm surprised I hadn't seen any mention of it in MacAddict!) It's exactly what I've been looking for to replace BBEdit (limited choice of full-blown commercial or entry level versions), and so far it's working fine. Frankly, I wouldn't mind paying $20 or so, as long as there are further enhancements such as multi-file search & replace. Shareware? Good job, and please KEEP IT UP!

Hey Andrew Clem;
Not sure if this is what you are refering to, but try the "batch find". Finds and replaces in as many files as you have open.
I donated $10 myself, I figure I owe at least that much for doing all of my work on taco. Nice work Raj, I still can't get over the fact that you started this back in highschool! You are bound for greatness.

Fantasic product - that said I'm having a problem setting the preferences up for PHP syntax checking on my mac running jaguar ( without the latest PHP security update ). Perhaps someone can enlighten me ?
