Taco HTML Edit Beta

Guess what? There's a public beta of Taco HTML Edit available now. It should hopefully be particularly useful to those of you who use PHP. It works with the PHP Command Line Interface to do previewing and syntax checking for PHP files. There are a few known issues in this beta:

  • Using "Preview With Browser" with PHP files does not work correctly (it just uses the browser it would normally use for Preview).
  • Live Preview should always refresh when re-opened (a minor bug).
  • The text is not always redrawn correctly when deleting selected text (an annoying issue).
I have come across a couple other issues at various times, but they seem rare, and I have been unable to reproduce them. It really makes things difficult when you know that there's a problem but you don't know how to cause it. Anyway, if you decide to test the software, feedback is appreciated. I can't guarantee that I will respond individually to all emails; I'm a busy person.

Taco HTML Edit Progress Report

I mentioned in my last post that I was trying to optimize the syntax checker, and I can now report that I have succeeded. The solution is somewhat unusual, so I'm not going to try to explain it. I think that there will be another beta, but it is going to be a public beta. I still have some issues with Jaguar that I need to get worked out before the next beta is released. In the mean time, I'm thinking that Taco HTML Edit could use a good slogan. Here are some options:

  1. Taco HTML Edit - Billions and billions of bits served.
  2. Taco HTML Edit - Give your web pages that zesty flavor.
  3. Taco HTML Edit - The icon no longer looks like poop.
That's the best that I can come up with. Any better ideas?
